Firm History
Robert Borders & Associates had its beginning in 1967 founded by Robert S. Borders, AIA, NCARB as a broad based general practice. The firm has completed a variety of commercial, industrial, recreational, religious, hospitality and special use projects over nearly a half century span. An interior division was formalized in 1980 to further assist our client's needs in providing a full service approach to project solutions. This group provides various services including space needs and tenant suitability analysis, project programming, space planning, interior design, furniture selection and specification, artwork selection and interior graphic coordination. The firm has also provided valuable pre-lease negotiation building assessments that have proven to be a valuable service during the lease negotiation stage.
While Bob Borders passed away in 2005, the firm's core values that include the importance of customer service, principal involvement in each project and continued support and mentoring of students in becoming the future emerging leaders in the architectural community is a Borders legacy that continues to exist within the firm. Many examples of Mr. Borders sense of humor and wit are still found within the office. His life experiences working on the railroad in Wyoming are evident in the many hand crafted model trains and toys that he created, many are displayed within the office - each with a "story" behind its creation.
Joe Petitpas, Jr. assumed general leadership of the office as President after Mr. Borders passing and continued the Borders legacy. Joe retired from the firm at the end of 2012. While we congratulate him on his 37 year tenure at the firm, we miss him at the office but wish him the best for a great second half.
Succeeding Joe as President of Robert Borders & Associates is Shelly DiLauro, CID, LEED AP ID+C. Shelly has been with the firm for over 30 years rising from intern to firm leadership. In addition to overall office leadership, Shelly is the Director of Interior Design, leads the Interior Design studio as well as sustainable design efforts for the firm.
